Carol Kidd sings Gershwin at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

18 Jun 2010 20:00 - 22:00

Carol Kidd is now widely recognised as one of the world's greatest living jazz singers. She performed in the very first Glasgow Jazz Festival and now, 24 years later, returns with a brand-new show celebrating the works of American Songbook royalty, George and Ira Gershwin.

Renowned for her impeccable phrasing and distinctive delivery, Carol Kidd has an innate ability to breathe fresh life into jazz standards. Tonight she is joined by a top-flight quartet including her long-time guitarist Nigel Clark (with whom she has just recorded a new duo album for Linn Records).

Featured songs include classics such as I've Got a Crush on You, Porgy, Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Plenty o' Nuttin', A Foggy Day, They Can't Take That Away from Me, The Man I Love, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Lady Be Good, S'Wonderful, I Got Rhythm and Summertime.

“Carol Kidd is the best kept secret of British jazz” - Frank Sinatra.

“Her control is thrilling....she is world class” - Dame Cleo Laine.
